Who we are

Sherwood Home Care was founded on the principles of empathy, excellence, and innovation. Our team of highly trained caregivers is not only skilled but also deeply committed to building meaningful relationships with our clients. We specialize in creating customized care plans that promote independence while offering peace of mind to families.

What sets us apart? We’re more than just a home care provider — we’re a trusted partner. At Sherwood, we assign a consistent care team of 2–4 caregivers to every client, ensuring familiar, reliable support rather than rotating staff. This model builds trust, routine, and emotional safety — especially important for clients with cognitive decline or complex care needs.

We also leverage modern technology and best practices in caregiving to ensure that our clients receive the highest standard of care. From advanced scheduling tools to continuous caregiving training, to only sourcing the cream of the crop chosen for your individual family member, we strive to remain at the forefront of this industry.

At Sherwood Home Care, we’re proud to serve as an extension of your family. Our approach is rooted in the belief that every client deserves respect, compassion, and personalized care. When you choose us, you’re not just getting a service; you’re gaining a dedicated team committed to enhancing your quality of life.

A Message from Our Founder

A woman with long, light brown hair, blue eyes, full lips, and makeup, looking directly at the camera against a plain light-colored background.

Hello, I’m McKay Brown, Founder and Owner of Sherwood Home Care.

My journey into caregiving began from a place of deep compassion and respect for the elderly and those in need of support. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of providing one-on-one private care for families throughout Scottsdale, building relationships rooted in trust, empathy, and dignity. What started as a calling quickly grew into a lifelong devotion not only to caregiving itself but to raising the standard of care.

I’ve seen firsthand how meaningful it is for families to feel confident that their loved ones are not only safe but genuinely cared for, treated like family with patience, warmth, and consistency. That understanding is at the heart of Sherwood Home Care. Every caregiver on our team is chosen with the same values I hold dear: compassion, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to quality care.

My mission is to bring peace of mind to families and joy to those we serve by offering a level of personal attention and heart that truly makes a difference each day.

With gratitude,
McKay Sherwood Brown

The Legacy Behind Our Name

Sherwood Home Care is named after my grandmother, Charlotte Sherwood Wiehrdt, whose life embodied courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to caring for others.

Charlotte trained as a nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Arizona from 1934 to 1937, graduating at the age of 20. Early in her career, she assisted in the first insulin shock treatment, reflecting her clinical skill and willingness to stand at the forefront of medicine.

Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, Charlotte joined the U.S. Army in January 1942 as an air-evacuation nurse at Luke Field, receiving flight training at Sky Harbor and flying 75 hours with 76 landings.

She later joined the 807th Squadron and was deployed to Catania, Sicily, replacing nurses who had been downed overseas. Her service carried her across Naples, southern France, Rome, Italy, and Germany, where she and her husband, Leonard Irving Wiehrdt, a fighter pilot, crossed paths while completing parallel tours throughout Europe. In June 1944, Charlotte was awarded an Air Medal with three clusters for her service.

After the war, Charlotte continued a life defined by resilience and care — following her husband to Air Force bases across the United States and abroad while raising six daughters. Her adventurous spirit led her across the world, including Asia, Europe, Africa, and South America.

During the Vietnam War, she lived in Bangkok, Thailand, where she worked alongside a surgical team at a Vietnamese hospital in Can Tho, continuing her lifelong dedication to caring for others. Charlotte was widowed after Leonard’s plane crashed in Laos in 1972.

Through every chapter of her life, Charlotte remained deeply devoted to people — her family, her patients, and anyone who crossed her path. She was known for her warmth, hospitality, and unwavering compassion, always placing others before herself.

That legacy is the heart of Sherwood Home Care.

Today, we carry forward Charlotte’s spirit by providing thoughtful, consistent, and deeply personal care, grounded in dignity, trust, and continuity — supporting individuals and families in the comfort of their own homes with caregivers they know and rely on.
